UK vans get CO2 database

The Department for Transport has teamed up with the SMMT to launch the UK’s most comprehensive database on the environmental impact of light commercial vehicles.

For some time there has been strong calls for this kind of data to be readily available to the van buying sector and now those calls have been answered with the simple to user online service.

The database makes for interesting reading, with the Ford Fiesta Van coming out top of the results with CO2 emissions of only 110g/km for their 1.4 and 1.6 Duratorq diesel panel vans. The Citroen C2 1.4 HDi Enterprise comes second with emissions of 113g/km. The small van section of the database is understandably dominated by car/van conversions, offering modest load spaces and capacities.

For medium sized vans the Renault Kangoo comes out top with the most frugal variant offering emissions of 129g/km, while for large vans Ford Transit ECOnetic wins out with 189g/km of CO2.

The database can be viewed via www.businesslink.gov.uk/vanfueldata
