Who says an environmental conscious and a lust for luxury don’t go together? If you’re an enthusiast for all things Jaguar you can have the best of both worlds.
That’s the verdict of the Environmental Transport Association’s 2009 Car Buyers’ Guide, which has dubbed the Jaguar XJ 2.7 Diesel as Britain’s greenest luxury car for the third successive year. The award recognises Jaguar’s efforts in lowering carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and fuel consumption as well as presenting advantages to customers.
In all, 1,300 vehicles were considered with examinations made of their power, emissions, fuel efficiency and even the amount of noise they produce.
According to Andrew Davis, director of the ETA, the XJ “consistently outperforms its rivals in the luxury class”. The car has achieved 1000.2miles on a single tank of fuel and its average fuel consumption is 53.5mpg, which equates to 139g/km of CO2 emissions.
Geoff Cousins, the managing director of Jaguar in the UK, is thrilled with the vehicle’s success.
“I am delighted we have won this award for the third year running,” he said. “We fully recognise our responsibility to the environment and are committed to playing our role in developing technology solutions for our cars to address climate change - this award shows we are heading in the right direction.”
The all-new Jaguar XJ will be unveiled in London on July 9, 2009, and will be available to order from that date.
