Wired tells us what to do with leftover Christmas trash

Holiday season is upon us, and while most of our readers are likely in the process of checking out all the cool new stuff that was deposited under the big tree in their living room, a few interesting questions arise once it’s all done and over with. For instance, what are you going to do with that tree next week? And what about all those bags of wrapping paper?

Wired is here to come to the rescue with advice from Spencer Quong from Quong & Associates, an expert in alternative fuels. Quong takes a lighthearted look at those bags of garbage and says nearly all of it can be recycled into fuel. That list includes age-old fruit cakes that can be turned into ethanol, evergreen trees and yule logs that can be converted to fuels via gasification and even reindeer droppings that are a dandy source of biomethane. A sustainable Christmas at last?
