With so many automakers planning to introduce plug-in vehicles in the next several years, lots of other companies are hoping to cash in with related businesses. Among those are companies producing charging stations. We’ve covered Coulomb Technologies on a number of occasions and we’ve just become aware of a company here in Michigan that wants in. PEP (plug-in electric power) Stations is actually a collaboration between design firm James Blain Associates and engineering consultant Ricardo. The company plans to build and sell these charging outlets for use in public places.
Like the Coulomb units, the PEP stations have communication capabilities for billing the driver. When the car is plugged in, the screen on the unit prompts the driver to accept the billing rate and then supports payment by an access car or credit card. The PEP station will be used for charging the vehicles being used for the ECO X display at the Detroit Auto Show next month.
