About a week ago we told you that Toyota would introduce several new hybrid cars. Now we can bring you more details as the manufacturer lines up three hybrid concepts for debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Making their first appearance on the world stage will be the Auris HSD full hybrid; the Prius plug-in hybrid concept; and the Lexus LF-Ch premium compact full hybrid compact.
According to Toyota, the Auris hybrid concept is the first step in implementing the Hybrid Synergy Drive across the company's model range.
The company has already announced that it will manufacture the hybrid vehicle at its UK-based facility in Burnaston, Derbyshire (see article).
The Auris originally hit the European marketplace in spring 2007 and since then has sold more than 370,000 vehicles. Now it will be equipped with a 1.33litre VVT-I engine and Start&Stop technology, which reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 17 per cent to 135g/km, as well as improving fuel economy by 19 per cent.
Meanwhile, the new Prius Plug-in Hybrid is scheduled for a field trial in Europe in early 2010 that will see more than 150 units leased to selected customers. The Lexus LF-Ch meanwhile will apply full hybrid technology to a five door compact package which is targeted at premium segment customers.
For more details be sure to come back for our coverage of the Frankfurt Motor Show which opens its doors on September 15.
