Details revealed about new Honda vehicles

Honda President Takanobu Ito has revealed details of two new Honda vehicles in an interview with The Nikkei.

Speaking to the business newspaper, he stated that the company would introduce a hybrid version of its Freed minivan in 2011 and he corroborated an earlier report that the company would introduce a battery electric vehicle by 2015.

He revealed that the Freed will be built on the same compact platform as the Fit and that the company would aim to get the balance right between economy, fuel efficiency and price. He also stated that the company hopes to meet California's zero emission vehicle regulation, considered the toughest in the world, as part of its development of electric cars.

In separate news, Honda has maintained its target of 200 lease sales of its FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicles in the US and Japan within its first three years according to Sachito Fujimoto, the vehicle's chief project manager, in an interview with Reuters.

Currently the manufacturer has 10 of the vehicles on the road, and he stated that the most difficult part now is raising productivity as Honda continues on the road towards commercialisation of the vehicle.
