Honda introduces flex fuel car in Brazil

Production is under way for the Honda City Flex Fuel Vehicle, which the company hopes will trigger exports across other countries in South America and as far afield as Mexico by September 2009.

The City vehicle is the third model produced by Honda Automoveis do Brasil Ltda following the Civic and Fit, with production of those cars beginning in 1997 and 2003 respectively. The price of the new flex fuel vehicle is set to begin at R$56,210 with the company hoping to sell around 17,000 units this year.

The model is based on the third-generation of the City car, which is currently sold in countries such as Thailand and has now been adapted to cope with the demands of the Brazilian market. It was first introduced in Thailand in 1996 and cumulative sales of the car now exceed 1.2million units in more than 45 countries.

Among the lead features of the Honda City FFV is a 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine.
