So, the details surrounding the contract that Zap has received to get an electric vehicle ready for the United States Postal Service (USPS) are as follows: the deal is for a single truck, one of the USPS’ common Long Life Vehicles (pictured). Zap will convert the truck in Santa Rosa, CA and then send it to Washington, D.C. for field tests. Four other companies have also been selected to provide the USPS with all-electric mail trucks. U.S. Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) toured Zap’s facility Tuesday and had the following to say:

I so appreciate ZAP for hanging in there all these years, knowing what we should be doing as a country. I think a majority of members of Congress, the House in particular, know that they were right and that this is where we need to be investing.

As we know, Congress is pushing to get at least 20,000 electric vehicles into the USPS fleet using a program called Edrive.org.
Zap has also posted a video of Woolsey’s visit, which you can find after the jump.
