Honda to introduce hybrid sports cars?

Place this one firmly in the ‘rumour mill’ for now, but reports are suggesting that Honda may soon add two hybrid sports cars to its fleet.

After the introduction of the second generation Insight, the Japanese car manufacturer has committed itself to the further development of hybrid drive vehicles. It already has the Civic and Insight available in the USA and Europe, and Japan will soon have a Fit hybrid as well.

Now, the company has also confirmed that a CR-Z Concept will arrive within the next year as a hybrid coupe - possibly with a 2.5litre four cylinder engine with direct injection. It would be Honda’s first direct injected production engine.

On top of that there are also reports that a sporty hybrid could be introduced as a successor to the S2000 roadster. According to Japan’s Best Car magazine, the car, referred to as FF-S2000, will be powered by Honda’s 3.5litre V6 engine and will also use Honda’s all-wheel drive system.

It is also possible that the vehicle will use a flywheel based kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) for a further performance boost. Bear in mind however, that none of these details are official currently.
